My Favorites:

     1.  Favorite Lines From Poems I Wrote:

                — From a poem to Jane, a year before her death.  Jane was restricted to a wheel chair.

Today I see a young girl
                           dancing high upon a wall,
I have no fear in watching her
I know she will not fall!

                — From a poem to Pastor John, who (because of unique circumstances)
needed to move out of state.

                           Though we cannot be together
I will say no to defeat!
I will see you in the morning
as we gather at his feet!

     2.  A poem I wrote to celebrate the life of Theresa (a dear elderly woman who lived across the street):

                   HEAVEN’S  GENTLE  BREEZE

             Your  garden’s  been  your  closet
where  you  would  get  down  on  your  knees
and  pray  for  those  so  dear  to  you
             in  Heaven’s  gentle  breeze.

             Your  kitchen’s  been  your  pantry
from  which  you  would  bless  your  friends
the  pies,  the  cakes,  and  cookies,
             the  long  list  never  ends.

Your  knitting  needles  and  ball  of  yarn
             three  of  the  simplest  things
would  spin  off  from your  busy  hands,
             clothing  fit  for  kings.

But  the  things  you  made  and  the  things  you  gave
have  been  reflections  from  the  start
of  a  woman  filled  with  goodness
             and  an  over  flowing  heart.

We’ve  never  let  them  be  confused
though  this  could  have  been  with  ease
with  the  beauty,  Theresa,  of  who  you  are,
             Heaven’s  gentle  breeze.

3.  A Christmas Poem written for a dear friend of Sara’s, Becky.
       (12/25/2018)

     A Walk By Your Side

     By Dale Petersen

     She walked down streets
     And cherry lanes
     While chatting on the way
     When she called
     With heavy heart
She didn’t have much to say

     But whispers shared from
     Heart to heart
     As only friends can do
Revived the inner springs of life
     As she
     Lingered there with you

     To place a value
     On such things
     The poets write with rhyme
     And Angels flutter
     Near the earth
To see what grows with time

     As misting waters
     Trickle down
     And shimmer on the way
     The streams of love
     On their way home
Give birth to a new day

     A laugh, once shared
     A sorrow flung
     Like sticks that bob along
     Reflections of
     Emerging hope
     The substance of a song

     When I see the fruit
     Of love so shared
     Like echos passing through
     I thank God
     With all my heart
That she has a friend like you

4.  A poem I wrote to celebrate the life of John (a very special fishing friend):
     (January, 2019)

    My Friend John

John was not a man of many words!
Talking seemed to take a toll,
But if asked the ‘just right’ question,

He would open up his soul.

Fishing is like a bug you catch
That runs you through and through.
But the reality is you don’t catch it,
     It really catches you!

With John it hooked him really bad
     That hankering for a fight
To set the hook and bring it home
The thrill was out of sight

But as friends we sat so often still
Sun rising to meet the day
And chat about the ones we love
     People for whom to pray

Another quest we used to share
Was not out in the wild
But to have a battle on the boards
     With those colorful Quirkle Tiles

It’s amazing the things one can learn
     While playing a simple game
John would play by his own script
His moves were never the same.

And then a timeout from our games
     Was always John’s one dream
To enjoy some brownies, cake or pie
Over a bowl of great Ice Cream.

But the measure of every person
     The measure of every man
When evil intrudes into your life
How do you take your stand?

     John rose to every challenge
He would not shrink from a fight
While holding to his moral path
He would always do what was RIGHT

Is it a function of God’s great kindness
With John’s health so past its prime
In response to so many people’s prayers
John was given some extra time.

He used it well – lived to the full
Thriving in all of life’s joys
He was so very proud of each of his girls
     And their sprouting little boys

But if there ever was one message
that would ever ring so true
John would say to his dearest wife,
     “Betty, I love you!”
